ABOUT THE TUTOR
Kaye grew up in Carnarvon and learnt to sew when she went to boarding school at Kobeelya. She began to do clothing and fabrics as an after-school elective, with an amazing sewing teacher which started her passion for sewing. In 1978, Kaye entered a sewing competition held at the Wagin Woolarama where the guidelines required a garment be made from wool and that a commercial pattern be altered from its original design. Fashion Designer Liz Davenport was a judge for the competition and Kaye placed second for her entry.
In 1979 Kaye approached Liz Davenport to ask if there were any opportunities to work with her. Liz suggested she do Fashion Design. This lead to Kaye enrolling with Perth Tafe from 1980-82. Kay has done some dressmaking on and off throughout the years and started Fashion sewing again when she moved to Geraldton in 2006. A after creating her daughters wedding gown in 2017, Kaye started her own dressmaking business, some of her garments have been featured in the local Race round. Kaye is now helping others discover the passion of Fashion design and dressmaking with workshops throughout the Midwest.
